I was inspired by Pat Ralph's 'The Visit Home' because I liked how the artist described the fabric's texture and body proportions and language of the casual body lying on the sofa, foreshortened. I wanted to create my version of what she made. I thought about what I'd do in the comfort of my own home and concluded that most time, other than doing school work and extracurriculars, I lie on my bed, thinking about how scared I am of the pace everything around me is changing as a seventeen-year-old and regrets, 'what ifs', about what I could've done better (if I am granted free time in respite, which is rare). I drew a self-portrait in response to those moments of contemplation because I know that these moments can only occur in my youth; these are the ordinary 'everyday comforts' of my youth, unmarred by many struggles I am yet to face.
